About Us

Our History

We have had a long and exhausting journey filled with many obstacles along the way to establish a fixed location to practice our faith. Our pursuit for a place to worship goes far back as 1984 where the local Muslim community primarily composed of Businessman from the Catering Industry and Doctors, embarked on a journey to establish a place to offer the Friday prayers.

Highlights of the journey

1992
Boys Club, Truro – Request rejected for the use of one of the rooms for Friday prayers (Muslim Community Size < 10).

1993 – 1999
The Cornwall Health Trust and local Village Hall – Temporary space provided for the weekly Jummah prayer to be prayed. The village hall was rented for major events such as Eid prayers.

1999
The Cornwall Islamic Trust purchased a residential property from funds raised by the local community. Weekly Friday prayer along with Sunday school for kids were held at the premise. Planning permission for development of the property was rejected.

Vision

Our vision highlights our wish for everyone among mankind to worship our Lord Allah alone (Glory be to Him) according to the teachings of His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him).

  • Our goals are to preserve and adhere to the authentic teachings of the Quran and Sunnah in accordance to the methodology of the Salaf-us-Saalih (pious predecessors).
  • Spread the message of Islam.
  • Make Cornwall Islamic Centre the central point within our community.

Mission

Cornwall Islamic Centre aims to inspire, educate and serve the local community and to encourage others to inspire, educate and serve.

  • We aim to inspire people to faith and to increase in faith through talks, social media, and various social activities.
  • We aim to educate Muslims and Non-Muslims, both young and old about the true teachings of Islam, “Peace”.
  • We aim to encourage the worship of Allah (Glory be to Him) and to serve the community according to the Quran and Sunnah.

“The best of people are those most beneficial to others.”

PROPHET MUHAMMAD (PEACE BE UPON HIM)
Message from our Secretary

Tipu Sultan Choudhury

Assalamualikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu.

I would first and foremost like to thank Allah the all mighty for his immense blessings and mercy that he has bestowed upon me and my family.

It has been an honour and privilege for me to serve as the General Secretary for the Cornwall Islamic Centre. I have been involved in the establishment of a Community centre for Muslims in Cornwall ever since I moved to Cornwall back in 1984.

Despite all the setbacks that were endured and the never ending road of despair, I must say it brings great joy and serenity in my heart to see the positive impact the Centre has had on the community.

I ask for your generous support, collaboration and participation in developing our community further and to feel proud of being part of it. I am confident that with the active youth and the steady growth of Muslims in Cornwall, the centre will prosper long after I am gone. Please remember me and my family in your supplications.

As always, I give my thanks to Allah (SWT), whose blessings and favour are the reasons for our successes; may he forgive my shortcomings, and grant our community even more blessings and success in the future.

Ameen.
Jazallahu Khair
